Programme Overview:
AUO runs the PhD by research programme in collaboration with its UK partner universities. We have specifically structured our partnership agreements to facilitate the options of PhD students.
Programmes are available in a range of subjects from the Applied Sciences to the Social Sciences, Liberal Arts and Humanities. These include: Accounting and Finance, English Language and Literature, TEFL, Law, Politics, Architecture, Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Material and Civil Engineering, Physics, and Mathematics, Nursing and Midwifery. Other subjects can be made available for students with further consultation.
The availability of subject areas and supervisors can vary from year to year and applicants are advised to acquaint themselves with the information on their chosen partner university website before beginning the application procedure.
The normal length of study for the PhD programme is three years. For the convenience and financial benefit of students, AUO delivers its programmes on the basis of a split site arrangement, allowing students to divide their time between the AUO campus in Oxford and the campus of our partner university, according to their particular research requirements. Where applicable, it also permits them to conduct a significant part of their research on the campus of an affiliated institution in their home country, if the terms and conditions of their UK partner university permit. Students will usually spend 18 months at the partner university and 18 months at the AUO campus in Oxford. Variations on this arrangement are possible depending on the student’s circumstances and the agreement with our partner university.
