History

1988

  • The Centre of re-qualification and training of adults "Attīstība" is founded.

1991

1993

  • The first graduates - students after acquiring two-year professional higher education social work study program receive their diplomas.
  • The first accreditation of higher school "Attīstība", provided by qualified experts from Finland and Sweden; the representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia are participating;

1995

  • The first graduates – students after acquiring four-year professional higher education social work study program receive their diplomas;
  • The first scientifically issues collection "Dzīves jautājumi" are published, and a tradition is created tpublish it every year.

1996

  • The Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia approves the constitution of the Higher School of social work and social pedagogics "Attistiba".

1997

  • Accreditation of higher school "Attīstība" and professional higher education social work study program;
  • Organization of the study process is founded basing on the principles of "module system" of problem-based education.

1998

  • The Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia approves Lidija Šiļņeva as the rector of the Higher School of social work and social pedagogics "Attīstība".

1999

  • The Higher school wins the tender of the Ministry of Welfare on "’Public procurement on training of social workers with higher education"

2000

  • The Higher school publishes the first dictionary of terminology of social work;
  • The Higher school in cooperation with European branch of International Interuniversity consortium of social development (IUCISD) organizes the 7th international conference "Social work and social development – new trends in a changing Europe". In the result of the conference, collected articles in English were published, reflecting topicalities in the profession of social work in the world. Branch of higher school in Kraslava is opened.

2001

  • 2nd level professional higher education master study program "Social work" is licensed, and the first students are matriculated;
  • The first number of magazine "Social Worker" is published.

2002

  • Branch of higher school in Smiltene is opened;
  • Quality Management centre is founded.

2003

  • Three 1st level professional higher education study programs "Organizing social assistance", "Social care", "Social rehabilitation" are licensed;
  • 2nd level professional higher education bachelor study program "Social work" is licensed;
  • 2nd level professional higher education study program "Social work" is licensed;
  • 2nd level professional higher education master study program "Social work" is accredited. The term of accreditation – 6 years.

2004

  • 1st level professional higher education study programs "Organizing of social assistance", "Social care", "Social rehabilitation" are accredited. The term of the accreditation is the maximal – 6 years;
  • 2nd level professional higher education bachelor study program "Social work" is accredited. The term of the accreditation is the maximal – 6 years;
  • 2nd level professional higher education study program "Social work" is accredited. The term of the accreditation is the maximal – 6 years;
  • International conference against trafficking is organized in cooperation with the University of Dominican (USA) with the support of the governments of Latvia and USA.

2005

  • Within 3 projects, co-financed by EU and Latvian state Hiġher School educates 20 students in study program "Organization of social assistance", 22 students in study program "Social care" and 21 student in study program "Social rehabilitation". Projects end in 2008.
  • In collaboration with the Dominican University, USA Higher School provides training of professionals in the field of human trafficking with certificate.
  • Starts collaboration with educational institutions of Lithuania and Estonia in the field of joint education of social work.

2006

  • Within 2 projects co-financed by EU and Latvian state Hiġher School educates 40 students in the study program "Organization of social assistance" in Smiltene and Rezekne. Projects end in 2008.
  • Within a project co-financed by EU and Latvian state Hiġher School in collaboration with the Rehabilitation center of the Latvian Blind Society educates 12 students with visual impairments in the study program "Social rehabilitation". Project ends in 2008.

2007

  • Within a project co-financed by EU and Latvian state Hiġher School in collaboration with the Welfare department of Riga city council develops and implements Motivation program for adolescents without parental care tstart independent life.
  • Higher School in collaboration with the educational institution of social correction "Strautini" implements project "Development of social skills and preparation for independent life of adolescents in educational institution of social correction "Starutini", co-financed by EU and Latvian state.
